What chiropractic care can help with

Chiropractors help people with:

  • general and lower back pain, including lumbago
  • sciatica
  • muscle spasms and stiffness
  • back pain linked to posture or long hours at a desk
  • back and pelvic discomfort during pregnancy (see pregnancy care)

Understanding why it hurts

Where you feel pain is not always where the problem started. That is why we never treat only the sore spot. At your first visit we take your full history and assess your posture, joints, muscles, balance and nervous system, so care is built around the whole picture.

Gentle care, no cracking required

Our main technique is Network Spinal, which uses light, precise touches rather than forceful adjustments. Many people who have been nervous about chiropractic find it a gentle way in. As one practice member, Joanna, put it after being afraid of adjustments because of stiffness and pain in her neck and back: after a few weeks of weekly sessions, “the pain slowly subsided”.

When to see a doctor instead

Most back pain is not serious, but some signs need urgent medical attention. See your GP or call NHS 111 straight away if your back pain comes with:

  • numbness around your bottom or genitals
  • problems controlling your bladder or bowels
  • weakness or numbness in your legs
  • a fever or feeling generally unwell
  • pain after a serious fall or accident

Questions people ask

Can a chiropractor help with lower back pain?

Yes. Lower back pain is one of the most common problems chiropractors help with. We start with a full assessment to understand what is going on, then recommend care only if we believe it can help you.

Can chiropractic help with sciatica?

Chiropractors commonly help people with sciatica. We will assess where your symptoms are coming from, and will refer you to your GP if anything suggests you need medical care.

When should I see a doctor instead?

See your GP or call NHS 111 straight away if back pain comes with numbness around your bottom or genitals, problems controlling your bladder or bowels, weakness in your legs, a fever, or follows a serious fall or accident.
